How Do Habitat's Committees Work?
Habitat for Humanity of Pitt Co is comprised of a 20 member Board of Directors as well as eight standing committees that are charged with doing a lion's share of the affiliate's functions. The committees are made up of individuals from our community and members of our Board of Directors. One does not need to be on the Board in order to serve on a committee; however, the committee is generally chaired by a member of the board
What are the Committees?
- Executive-Made up of the current President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Immediate Past President of the Board of Directors plus the Executive Director (non-voting member). The Executive Committee oversees the routine management of the day to day affairs of the organization and oversees the financial affairs of the Corporation. This committee meets monthly, usually the Thursday preceeding the full Board meeting.
- Nominating-The Nominating Committee is charged with the responsibility of presenting a slate of officers and directors for election by the end of the fiscal year. This committee generally meets as called by the chairman.
- Construction-The Construction Committee is responsible for the planning and implementing of construction projects of Habitat for Humanity, as well as identification, analysis, selection and acquisition of building sites. This committee typically meets on the last Tuesday evening of each month.
- Church Relations-The Church Relations Committee works with the churches in Pitt County to encourage sponsorship for building a home, contributions and recruiting of volunteers from those congregations. This committee meets as called by the chairman.
- Family Selection-The Family Selection Committee is responsible for recruiting and selecting the families for whom the homes will be built, for acting as a liason between Habitat and local social service agencies, for recommending applicants to the Board of Directors fopr approval and for coordinating contacts between the Board and the families who have been selected. This committee meets on the last Wednesday evening of each month.
- Development-This committee is responsible for planning, organizing and conducting all fund raising efforts of the Corporation as well as informing the public of the goals, needs and activities of Habitat. This committee meets on an as needed basis.
- Service-The Service Committee is responsible for recruiting, maintaining and recognizing volunteers and records necessary for insurance coverage as well as training partners to work with the homeowners. This committee meets on an as required basis.
- ReStore-The ReStore Committee is responsible for recruiting and maintaining a permanet group of volunteers for the store as well as informing the public of the goals, needs and activities of the store by using varous media. This committee meets on the first Tuesday evening of the month.
